10 Meal Prep Recipes to Make Busy Weeks Easier

Meal prep doesn’t have to mean boring food, eating the same thing on repeat, or spending your entire Sunday in the kitchen. The biggest shift that changed everything for me was realizing that meal prep works best when you focus on flavor-forward components — proteins, sauces, and bases — that can be mixed and matched all week long. When done right, it saves time, reduces stress, and actually makes cooking during the week feel easier.

During Ramadan especially, meal prep becomes a true lifesaver. Between long fasting days, busy evenings, and wanting nourishing meals ready without standing over the stove every night, having food prepped ahead makes all the difference. Over the years, Ramadan taught me that the key isn’t cooking full meals every day — it’s prepping smart, flexible components that come together quickly when you need them.

This post brings together all of my most meal-prep-friendly recipes from the blog — the ones I personally rely on during busy weeks and throughout Ramadan. From bold protein marinades to make-ahead breakfasts, sauces, salads, and appetizers, this is your ultimate Moribyan meal prep guide.

How I Meal Prep (The Realistic Way)

My approach to meal prep is realistic, flexible, and built around flavor:

  • I prep proteins in advance so meals come together fast and I don’t have to handle prepping any raw meat
  • I keep flavors bold so nothing tastes dull after a few days
  • I prep sauces separately to avoid repetition
  • I choose recipes that reheat well or taste great cold

Think of meal prep as building blocks, not rigid meals.

Protein Marinades You Can Prep Once and Use All Week

Marinated proteins are the foundation of good meal prep. Most of these can be cooked right away or frozen directly in their marinade so they’re ready whenever you need them.

CHICKEN MARINADES (15 Total Flavors)

These three posts give you a full rotation of chicken marinades that work for bowls, wraps, salads, sandwiches, and plates:

Some of the flavors you’ll find:
  • Garlic and Herb
  • Carne Asada
  • Shawarma
  • Miso Honey
  • Teriyaki
Why I love these:
  • You can bake, grill, air-fry, or pan-sear them
  • They freeze beautifully in their marinades
  • One batch of chicken can turn into multiple meals
Other ways to use them:
  • Slice and add to salads
  • Serve with rice, quinoa, or orzo in a bowl
  • Stuff into wraps or pita
  • Serve with noodles or a pasta

SALMON MARINADES

For lighter but still satisfying meals, these salmon marinades are perfect for seafood lovers!

Flavor highlights include citrusy, garlicky, and slightly sweet profiles that pair well with rice bowls or salads.

Other ideas:
  • Flake into salads the next day
  • Serve over roasted vegetables
  • Pair with rice and a sauce

STEAK MARINADES

For heartier weeks, these steak marinades are on repeat:

These range from bold and garlicky to slightly sweet and savory, making them easy to repurpose across meals.

Other ideas:
  • Steak bowls with rice and veggies
  • Steak wraps or flatbreads
  • Added to salads for extra protein
  • With any kind of potatoes and roasted veggies!

Other Proteins You Can Marinate

The same marinades work beautifully with:

  • Any other fish!
  • Shrimp
  • Lamb chops or cubes
  • Ground beef or ground chicken

Sauces That Make Meal Prep Better

If you prep nothing else, prep a sauce. Sauces completely change the flavor of a meal without extra effort.

  • 4 Meal Prep Sauces: These are sauces that you dress a bowl with or use as a spread in a sandwich or wrap
  • Simmer Sauces: These are sauces that you cook into so think of butter chicken, red curry, alfredo, and creamy “vodka” sauce.

You’ll find creamy, tangy, and bold sauces that pair with just about everything.

Ways to use sauces:
  • Drizzle over proteins
  • Toss into grain bowls
  • Spread into wraps or sandwiches
  • Use instead of bottled salad dressing
  • Add pasta or protein into the simmer sauces

Meal-Prep-Friendly Salads That Actually Feel Like Meals

These salads are built to last and still taste fresh after a few days:

For the egg, chicken, and tuna salad, my favorite ways to enjoy are on an open face piece of toasted bread or with some crackers. For the salad dressings, feel free to toss together any salad you like along with some protein and toss the dressing in and voila!

Breakfast Meal Prep (A Game Changer)

Prepping breakfast ahead of time takes so much pressure off busy mornings and suhoor.

Both are easy to portion, freeze, and reheat.

Other breakfast ideas:
  • yogurt parfaits
  • overnight oats
  • egg wraps
  • breakfast burritos
  • egg muffins

Fried Foods You Can Prep and Freeze

Not everything has to be baked or grilled to be meal-prep friendly. Some fried foods actually prep beautifully ahead of time and are perfect to keep in the freezer for when you want something crispy and satisfying without starting from scratch.

Two of my favorites:

Both of these can be assembled completely ahead of time and frozen uncooked.

How I freeze them:
  • Arrange the egg rolls in a single layer on a sheet pan
  • Freeze until solid so they don’t stick together
  • Transfer to a zip-top bag and store in the freezer

When you’re ready to eat, you can fry them straight from frozen. They’re perfect for quick iftar plates, appetizers, or even paired with a salad for an easy meal.

Puff Pastry and Bread Items You Can Prep and Freeze

Puff pastry and dough is another great thing to keep in rotation for meal prep. These savory rolls can be assembled completely ahead of time, frozen, and baked whenever you need something quick, flaky, and satisfying.

Some favorites from the blog:

Both work perfectly as snacks, sides, or even light meals paired with a salad.

How I freeze puff pastry items:

  • Assemble the rolls and place them in a single layer on a sheet pan
  • Freeze until solid so they don’t stick together
  • Transfer to a zip-top bag and store in the freezer

When you’re ready to bake, you can bake them straight from frozen — just add a few extra minutes to the bake time. They’re especially great to have on hand when you want something homemade without the extra prep.

How to Mix and Match Everything All Week

  • Chicken + rice + sauce = easy bowls
  • Salmon + salad = light lunches
  • Steak + wraps or flatbreads = quick dinners
  • Egg bake or sandwiches = stress-free breakfasts

You don’t need a different meal for every day — just a few solid components that work together.

Meal prep should make your life easier, not feel like a chore. With a few bold marinades, versatile sauces, and flexible bases, you can eat well all week — especially during Ramadan when time and energy matter most. Save this post, come back to it when planning your week, and mix things up based on what you’re craving.
