Cream Cheese Stuffed Garlic Bagel

Bagel fans, get ready for a taste of Calic Bagels at home with these cream cheese-stuffed garlic bread bagels! You have truly tasted nothing like it before. Inspired by the famous LA bakery, these are a must-try. Cream Cheese Filling

Alright, let’s start with the heart of our garlic bread bagels—the creamy, dreamy filling. This recipe is inspired by Korean Garlic Cheese Bread and the cream cheese filling is sweetened. It’s a bit tangy, a bit salty, and a little sweet! These are all the ingredients you need:

  • cream cheese, softened
  • granulated sugar
  • sweetened condensed milk
  • pinch of salt

To a mixing bowl, add softened cream cheese, a touch of granulated sugar for that hint of sweetness, a dollop of sweetened condensed milk for extra richness, and a pinch of salt to balance it all out. Whip these ingredients together until smooth, and you’ve got yourself a luscious filling that’s just begging to be stuffed into those bagels.

NOTE: If you don’t want the filling to be sweet, simply add less sugar or sweetened condensed milk or just omit it entirely. It’s up to you and your taste preference!

Garlic Butter

Now, let’s talk about that irresistible garlic butter. Once the bagels are cut and filled, they get dunked into this delicious savory garlic bath. Melted butter meets minced garlic, chopped parsley, a splash of milk, a hint of mayo for creaminess, a sprinkle of oregano for flavor, grated parmesan for that savory kick, an egg to thicken it, and a generous pinch of salt to tie it all together. Mix it up until everything’s well combined, and you’ve got a garlicky buttery concoction that’s about to take your bagels to the next level.

TIP: Make the garlic butter after cutting and filling the bagels and right before you dunk them. This will prevent the garlic butter from solidifying on the counter and you having to reheat it. It’s alright if you end up needing to do that but it’s best to avoid it. If that does happen, heat it in the microwave on the lowest setting for 15 seconds – otherwise, the egg in it will curdle which we don’t want to happen!

Assembling and Baking

Alright, time to bring it all together and get these babies in the oven now that all the components are assembled. Preheat your oven to 350°F and get those bagels ready. Make six cuts across each bagel, being careful not to slice all the way through. Create a little pocket in each cut to hold our cream cheese filling. Now, grab a piping bag or a ziploc with the corner snipped off and fill those bagels up with the cream cheese filling. Feel free to add as little or as much as you’d like depending on your love for cream cheese.

NOTE: Feel free to use your favorite bagels for this recipe. You can use homemade or store-bought bagels!

Once they’re all stuffed, it’s dunking time—submerge each bagel in that glorious garlic butter, let any excess drip off, and onto a baking tray they go. Pop ’em in the oven for 11 to 13 minutes until they’re golden brown and irresistible. Once they’re out, a sprinkle of parsley and parmesan for the finishing touch, and voila—your homemade garlic bread bagels are ready to be devoured. Enjoy the crispy, garlicky exterior giving way to that creamy, cheesy center with every delicious bite. Bon appétit!

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons kewpie mayo
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 3 tablespoons grated parmesan
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

MAKE THE CHEESE FILLING
  1. To a mixing bowl, add the cream cheese, granulated white sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and a pinch of salt.

  5. Bake in the oven for 11 to 13 minutes or until golden brown all around.
  6. Once out of the oven, garnish with more chopped parsley and grated parmesan. Allow to cool down and then enjoy!
