Lazy Cake – Chocolate Salami
When you’re craving something rich and chocolatey but cannot be bothered to bake, this lazy cake is exactly what you need. Also known as chocolate salami, it’s one of those nostalgic desserts that feels fancy but secretly takes almost no effort. It’s fudgy, chocolate-forward, packed with crunch, and just melts in your mouth with every bite.

This is one of those recipes I make when I want a dessert now or when I need something impressive with minimal work. Slice it up, dust it generously with powdered sugar, and suddenly it looks like something you picked up from a bakery.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- No oven, no baking, no stress
- Rich, fudgy, and perfectly chocolatey
- The mix of soft chocolate and crunchy biscuits is elite
- Easy to make ahead for entertaining or gifting
- That powdered sugar finish makes it look so good sliced
- And you barely need any ingredients!
How to Make Lazy Cake
Start by making the chocolate base. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the condensed milk, butter, cocoa powder, and heavy cream. Stir constantly as everything melts together until the mixture is smooth, glossy, and fully combined. This part only takes a few minutes, but keep stirring so nothing scorches.
Drop the heat to low, add in the chopped chocolate, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the chocolate melts completely and the mixture looks rich and silky. At this point, it already smells incredible. Take off the heat once smooth and all homogenous.
Now comes the texture. Add in the chopped tea biscuits and walnuts in a large bowl, pour the chocolate mixture all over, and combine together gently using a rubber spatula, making sure everything is evenly coated in that chocolate mixture. You want every bite to have a little crunch.
Lay out two pieces of plastic wrap on your counter and divide the mixture evenly between them. Shape each portion into a log, then roll tightly, and twist the ends to seal. Pop them into the fridge and let them chill until firm.
When you’re ready to serve, unwrap the logs, dust them generously with powdered sugar, and slice. The inside should look speckled and salami-like, which is exactly what you want.
Tips for the Best Chocolate Salami
- Chop the biscuits and walnuts fairly evenly so you get a good mix in every slice
- Roll the logs tightly so they hold their shape once chilled
- Don’t skip the powdered sugar, it’s what gives it that classic chocolate salami look
- Let it chill fully before slicing for clean cuts
Variations to Try
If you want to take it a step further, you can cover the chilled logs in a simple chocolate ganache and sprinkle crushed tea biscuits on top for extra texture. A white chocolate version is also so good, just swap the cocoa powder and semi-sweet chocolate for melted white chocolate for a sweeter, creamier twist. You can even drizzle white chocolate over the classic version for a bakery-style finish.
Feel free to also swap the tea biscuits for biscoff cookies for a different flavor profile or half biscoff, half tea biscuits.
Storing & Making Ahead
This is a great make-ahead dessert. Keep the logs wrapped tightly in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can also freeze them for up to 2 months, just thaw slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and slicing.

Tips & Notes
Q: Why is it called chocolate salami?
A: Once dusted with powdered sugar and sliced, it looks just like a salami, with the biscuits and walnuts giving it that classic speckled look.

A: Yes. Wrap the logs tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and slice before serving.
Q: How should I store leftovers?
A: Keep slices in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
