Crepes

These chocolate and strawberry stuffed crepes are a game-changer and way easier to make than you’d expect! The combination of soft, buttery crepes with creamy hazelnut chocolate spread and juicy strawberries is pure bliss. Whip these up for breakfast or dessert, and you’ll see how quickly they become a favorite!

Making the Batter

First things first, let’s talk about the batter. The key to perfect crepes lies in achieving a smooth, lump-free batter with just the right consistency. You’ll start by whisking together some flour, a bit of sugar, and a pinch of salt. Then, create a little well in the center of your dry ingredients and crack in a couple of eggs. Add melted butter and a splash of vanilla extract for some depth in flavor and richness.

Now comes the milk – you’ll want to add it gradually while whisking continuously. This helps to avoid lumps and ensures a smooth batter. The consistency you’re aiming for is similar to heavy cream. If the batter seems too thick, add a bit more milk until it’s just right. Let the batter rest for about 15-30 minutes. This rest period allows the flour to fully absorb the liquids, resulting in tender, flexible crepes.

Cooking the Crepes

Once your batter is ready, it’s time to cook the crepes. Heat a non-stick skillet or a dedicated crepe pan over medium heat. You want to make the pan is not curved at all or it will affect the shape and thinness of the crepes. A light greasing with butter or cooking spray is all you need. Pour a small amount of batter into the center of the pan and quickly swirl it around to form a thin, even layer. This step is crucial for achieving those perfectly thin crepes. You need to work fast because it cooks FAST!

Cook the crepe until the edges start to lift and the bottom is lightly golden. Then, flip it over and cook the other side. It should only take about a minute or two per side. Stack your cooked crepes on a plate and cover them with a kitchen towel to keep them warm and soft.

Different pans can give slightly different results. A traditional crepe pan is ideal, but any non-stick skillet will do the job. If you have an electric griddle, that can work wonderfully as well, allowing you to make multiple crepes at once.

Stuffing Your Crepes

Now for the fun part – stuffing your crepes! Chocolate hazelnut spread and strawberries are a classic combination that’s hard to beat. Spread a generous layer of chocolate hazelnut spread on each crepe and add sliced strawberries before folding or rolling them up. The warmth of the crepe will melt the chocolate hazelnut spread slightly, creating a deliciously gooey filling.

If you’re feeling adventurous, there are endless stuffing possibilities. For a sweet twist, try filling your crepes with whipped cream and fresh berries, caramelized bananas with a sprinkle of cinnamon, or even a dollop of your favorite jam.

If you prefer savory options, crepes can be just as delightful. Fill them with sautéed mushrooms and spinach, turkey and cheese, or smoked salmon and cream cheese. The versatility of crepes makes them perfect for any meal or occasion.

Tips and Tricks

Here are a few tips to ensure your crepe-making experience is smooth and enjoyable:

  • Rest the Batter: Allowing the batter to rest helps achieve tender crepes.
  • Proper Heat: Make sure your pan is adequately heated before adding the batter to prevent sticking.
  • Thin Layer: Swirl the batter quickly to form a thin, even layer for the perfect crepe texture.
  • Keep Warm: Stack cooked crepes on a plate and cover with a kitchen towel to keep them warm and soft.

Crepes might seem daunting at first, but with a bit of practice, you’ll find them to be one of the easiest and most rewarding dishes to make. Enjoy the process, experiment with different fillings, and most importantly, savor each delicious bite!
