Loaded Tater Tot Cups
Loaded baked potatoes turned into crispy cheesy tater tot cups! It’s the most delicious finger food and it’s also incredibly easy to make. They’re packed with sour cream, beef bacon, and all the cheddar cheese and chives just like a loaded baked potato!

Making the Tater Tot Cups
I love making this recipe when I’m having guests over last minute because of how easy it is but everyone is still always shocked at how good they are! It’s a win for everyone. The trick is to use frozen tater tots.
To take this to the next level, I made a garlic butter to brush the cupcake tin with for extra flavor. Here’s what you need for the garlic butter:
- unsalted butter, melted
- parmesan
- chopped parsley
- minced garlic
- salt
- black pepper
- oregano
Just add all the ingredients above and mix together and now you have homemade garlic butter! Brush into each cup in a cupcake tray.
Add 5 to 6 tater tots into each cup. Pop in the oven to bake at 425°F for 10 minutes. You don’t need to bake them fully, just half-way. Take the tray out of the oven and use a small glass or muddler to smash the tater tots down and form a cup shape. Brush the inside of each tater tot cup with a bit more garlic butter.
TIP: I used a round espresso shot glass and it worked perfectly to create the shape. If you are having issues with the tater tots sticking, spray the glass with oil.
Add some shredded cheddar cheese into the cup and pop it back in the oven for 13 to 17 more minutes until golden and crispy all around. Take it out of the oven and let it cool for five minutes. The tater tot cups should slide right out and then it’s time to load them up.
The Toppings
The best part about this recipe is how easy it is to make it your own! You can absolutely load it with anything and everything you love.
For a classic and simple baked potato, you would add sour cream, beef bacon, chopped chives or green onion, and shredded cheddar cheese.
Another version you can try that is so good is turning it into a breakfast food. Add scrambled eggs, chopped beef bacon, avocado, and even a chipotle aioli.
You can also make a taco-inspired flavor profile and fill the tater tot cups with seasoned ground beef, sour cream, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese!
There are so many different variations you can try – have fun with it! Let me know in the comment section below what combo you end up trying.
