Eggnog meets Hawaiian Rolls meets French Toast for this festive cozy breakfast! They literally taste like fluffy sweet clouds and all you need is 30 minutes to make this recipe. If you like eggnog, you will simply go CRAZY for these!

The best part about the weekend is my opinion is the lazy mornings because that means more time for breakfast/brunch which also happens to be my favorite meal. I love making all sorts of sweet and savory dishes for my family to enjoy in the morning and our favorite lately is Hawaiian Roll French Toast. the previous classic recipe and the pumpkin pie version have both been huge hits so today, we are going to make an eggnog version for the winter!

HOW TO MAKE IT

The process for making French Toast is super simple and this recipe doesnโ€™t require more than 7 ingredients and you probably already have most, if not all, on hand. The only ingredient you might need to go pick up is eggnog.

Now there are two parts to any French Toast recipes: the first is the bread and the second is the custard. The bred gets dipped in the custard and cooked in a pan with a little bit of butter.

So first letโ€™s make the custard.ย Here is what you need:

  • eggnog
  • large eggs
  • brown sugar
  • vanilla extract
  • cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg

Add all the ingredients to a bowl and whisk very well until smooth and completely homogenous.

Now for the bread, weโ€™ll be using Hawaiian Sweet Rolls! There is enough custard to make it through about 24 rolls but you donโ€™t have to make that many if you donโ€™t want to.

Now that the bread and custard is ready to go, itโ€™s time to cook it up! All you need is a pan and unsalted butter. Just quickly dip the roll in the custard all around and take it out immediately. If you let it sit in the custard, it will get soggy so just dip and let any excess drip.

NOTE: If you want the custard to soak deeper in, you can use a toothpick or skewer to make holes and then dunk in the custard. You can also lay the rolls out on a wire rack to dry out the night before if you plan to poke them to soak more custard!

Then cook it on a pan with a little bit of butter over medium-low to medium heat until golden brown all around. The heat will depend on your stove since their strengths all vary. Youโ€™ll have to constantly rotate it so each side is golden and crispy. Itโ€™s tedious but worth it!

Once youโ€™ve made the desired amount, just finish it off with powdered sugar and maple syrup to enjoy!

Yields12 rolls
Servings12 rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 package of Sweet Hawaiian Rolls, 12 rolls
  • 3/4 cup eggnog
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • powdered sugar
  • maple syrup
  • whipped cream, optional

Instructionsย

  1. To a bowl, make the custard for dipping the bread in. Combine eggnog, eggs, brown sugar, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Whisk really well until completely smooth and homogenous.
  2. Heat a large pan over medium-low to medium heat. Add a little bit of butter. If the pan is too hot, the butter will burn so make sure itโ€™s not too high.
  3. Dip each Hawaiian Roll in the custard quickly and place on the pan. Repeat with a few more until the pan is full but not crowded.
  4. Cook for about 2 minutes, then turn each one over and repeat so every side of the roll gets golden brown and crispy. Take off the pan and repeat with the rest of the Hawaiian Rolls.
  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle maple syrup on top. Optional, serve with berries and whipped cream to enjoy!

Notes

If you want the custard to soak deeper in, you can use a toothpick or skewer to make holes and then dunk in the custard. You can also lay the rolls out on a wire rack to dry out the night before if you plan to poke them to soak more custard!
