Yields12 rolls
Servings12 rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 package of Sweet Hawaiian Rolls, 12 rolls
  • 3/4 cup eggnog
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • powdered sugar
  • maple syrup
  • whipped cream, optional

Instructions

  1. To a bowl, make the custard for dipping the bread in. Combine eggnog, eggs, brown sugar, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Whisk really well until completely smooth and homogenous.
  2. Heat a large pan over medium-low to medium heat. Add a little bit of butter. If the pan is too hot, the butter will burn so make sure it's not too high.
  3. Dip each Hawaiian Roll in the custard quickly and place on the pan. Repeat with a few more until the pan is full but not crowded.
  4. Cook for about 2 minutes, then turn each one over and repeat so every side of the roll gets golden brown and crispy. Take off the pan and repeat with the rest of the Hawaiian Rolls.
  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle maple syrup on top. Optional, serve with berries and whipped cream to enjoy!

Notes

If you want the custard to soak deeper in, you can use a toothpick or skewer to make holes and then dunk in the custard. You can also lay the rolls out on a wire rack to dry out the night before if you plan to poke them to soak more custard!
