Oreo Cheesecake – High Protein

Cottage cheese has completely changed the way I make dessert and this Oreo Cheesecake is the best example of that. Blend it down smooth and it tastes just like cream cheese but with way more protein, making it the perfect base for a cheesecake pudding. Layered with whole Oreo cookies and topped with a glossy chocolate ganache, this is the kind of dessert you will be making on repeat.

Getting enough protein in every single day is genuinely something I struggle with. A sweet treat though? Never missed a day in my life. So when I became completely obsessed with cottage cheese and started finding every possible way to use it in the kitchen, this recipe felt like the universe doing me a favor. Cottage cheese is honestly one of the most underrated ingredients out there. It is incredibly versatile and when you blend it down smooth it tastes so much like cream cheese that you would never guess it is in there. It just quietly bumps up the protein in whatever you make with it, and for a dessert that tastes this good, you’d never guess it wasn’t the real thing. It tastes just like a cheesecake pudding, but this time it’s the cookies and cream version.

This Oreo Cheesecake has a base of whole Oreo cookies, a creamy filling packed with chopped Oreos throughout, and a rich chocolate ganache poured right over the top, all coming together into something that looks and tastes like way more effort than it actually is. Ten minutes of work and the fridge handles the rest.

What Makes This One Special

If you have been sleeping on cottage cheese as a dessert ingredient, this recipe is about to change that for you. When you blend it completely smooth it loses that lumpy texture entirely and transforms into something silky, creamy, and tangy just like cream cheese. The difference is that cottage cheese packs in significantly more protein per serving, so you are getting a dessert with a little nutritional boost without sacrificing any of the flavor or texture you want.

This one leans into full cookies and cream territory. Whole Oreos on the bottom for that classic soft, cakey crust as it sits, chopped Oreos folded straight into the filling for texture in every bite, and a warm chocolate ganache poured over the top that sets into the most satisfying glossy layer once it chills.

Ingredients

For the filling, you’ll need whole milk cottage cheese, maple syrup, vanilla extract, vanilla protein powder, whipped cream topping, and a handful of roughly chopped Oreo cookies.

For the ganache, it’s just chocolate chips and heavy cream.

To assemble, you’ll need a whole sleeve of Oreo cookies for the base and a few extra crushed on top for garnish.

How To Make It

Start with the filling. Add the cottage cheese to a large bowl and use an immersion blender to blend until completely smooth and creamy with zero lumps. A regular blender or food processor works just as well here. This step is everything — the smoother it is, the more it mimics that classic cheesecake filling. My favorite brand to use is Good Culture and the regular fat content will give you a creamier consistency.

Once your cottage cheese is silky smooth, add the vanilla protein powder, vanilla extract, and maple syrup and combine until fully smooth. Fold in the whipped topping until it’s light and creamy, then fold in the chopped Oreos. Taste it and make sure it’s to your liking. If you want it sweeter, add a spoonful of white sugar at a time until it’s right.

🤎 Cover the filling and pop it in the fridge while you make the ganache. It firms up slightly and layers even better once it’s chilled a bit.

Make the ganache. In a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, heat the heavy cream until warm, not boiling. Pour it right over the chocolate chips, cover, and let it sit for 10 minutes undisturbed. Then uncover and whisk until it’s completely smooth and glossy. You can also make this stovetop if you prefer. Warm the heavy cream in a saucepan over very low heat, add the chocolate right into the pan, and continuously stir until melted and smooth. Just don’t leave it too long or it will burn.

🤎 Don’t rush the whisking. If the ganache looks a little separated at first, just keep going and it’ll come together silky and pourable.

Assemble it. In individual cups, small containers, or one big dish, layer whole Oreo cookies on the bottom, followed by a generous layer of the cheesecake filling. Pour the ganache over the top and finish with a sprinkle of crushed Oreos. Cover and let everything set in the fridge for at least 2 hours before digging in.

Tips & Variations

A few things to keep in mind if you want this one to turn out perfectly every time.

  • Do not skip the blending step. The whole thing hinges on how smooth your cottage cheese gets, so blend it longer than you think you need to.
  • Taste the filling before assembling and adjust the sweetness with a spoonful of white sugar at a time if needed.
  • If making the ganache stovetop, keep the heat very low and stir the whole time — it burns fast if left unattended.
  • Use a clear cup or glass if you want to show off the layers. It makes the presentation so much prettier.
  • Don’t go too heavy on the protein powder. A quarter cup is the sweet spot here — enough to boost the protein without changing the texture or sweetness.
  • Swap the chocolate chips for white chocolate or dark chocolate chips depending on what you’re in the mood for.

Make Ahead & Storing Leftovers

This is actually better the next day, so it’s a great one to make ahead. The Oreos on the bottom soften overnight and the ganache sets fully so every layer holds together beautifully when you scoop into it. Cover and store in the fridge for up to 3 to 5 days. It’ll keep softening slightly as it sits, which honestly just makes it better.

I used this container to layer and set this in, and my go-to vanilla protein powder for the filling.

Tips & Notes

Q: Can I use a different protein powder?

A: Yes! Any vanilla protein powder works here. Just keep in mind that some powders are thicker or sweeter than others, so you may need to adjust slightly based on the brand you use.

Q: What if I don't want to add protein powder?

A: No problem! Simply leave it out and add white sugar to taste to sweeten it up instead.

Q: Do I have to use an immersion blender?

A: A regular blender or food processor works too. You just want the cottage cheese completely smooth before anything else goes in.

Q: How long does it keep in the fridge?

A: Up to 3 to 5 days covered in the fridge. The Oreos will continue to soften the longer it sits, which honestly makes it even better.

Q: What if I want it sweeter?

A: Add a tablespoon of white sugar at a time to the filling until it's as sweet as you'd like.
