Chocolate Mousse Cups
If you’re a true chocolate lover, this dessert is about to become your new obsession. These chocolate mousse cups look so elegant and fancy, but they come together with just a few simple steps and some chill time. They’re silky, rich, airy, and every single bite feels like something you’d order at a restaurant — but better because you made it at home.

What I love most is the contrast of textures. You get a crunchy cookie base, a cloud-light mousse layered on top, and the fluffiest Chantilly cream to finish everything off. Serve them in individual cups for the prettiest presentation, or layer it all in one big parfait bowl for a show-stopping centerpiece.
This dessert is actually inspired by these Chocolate Mousse Cups by husband loves from the grocery store so I had to learn how to make it myself from scratch. It was a huge hit so I hope you love it just as much!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- A chocolate lover’s dream: Deep, smooth, rich chocolate flavor in every bite.
- Easy but impressive: No baking, no complicated techniques — just gentle heat and folding.
- Perfect for entertaining: Prep ahead and chill so dessert is stress-free.
- Single-serve or family-style: Make individual cups or layer in a big dish.
- Customizable: Switch up the base, toppings, or serving style.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Crust
Crushed cookies and melted butter come together to make the quickest, tastiest base. It adds just the right amount of crunch to balance the silky mousse.
Chocolate Mousse
Heavy cream, butter, sugar, chopped chocolate, egg yolks, espresso powder, vanilla, and a pinch of salt — plus chilled heavy cream for whipping. It creates that airy, silky texture that melts in your mouth. Another option which is the French technique is to use whipped egg whites for aerating the pudding if you prefer a lighter version.
Moribyan Tip: Espresso powder doesn’t make it taste like coffee. It just deepens the chocolate flavor so it tastes even richer.
Chantilly Cream
Fresh heavy cream whipped with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft and fluffy. It’s the final touch that makes each spoonful extra dreamy. It also helps to cut from the chocolate. If you want to make this recipe even easier and quicker, use store-bought whipped cream for the topping or skip it entirely for pure chocolate bliss.
How to Make It
Make the Crust
Pulse your oreo cookies in a food processor until they turn into very fine crumbs — the texture should look like sand. Transfer to a bowl and mix with melted butter until fully combined and resembling wet sand. Cover and set aside until assembly.
Variation Idea: Try swapping the cookies for Biscoff, graham crackers, or even brownie crumbs for a fudgier twist.
Make the Chocolate Mousse
Place the chopped chocolate in a heat-safe bowl. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, warm the heavy cream with the butter and sugar until hot and the sugar dissolves. Pour this mixture over the chocolate, cover the bowl, and let it sit untouched for about 10 minutes.
Once melted through, whisk until smooth and glossy, then let it cool slightly. Whisk in the egg yolks, then add the espresso powder, vanilla extract, and a tiny pinch of salt. In a separate bowl, whip the chilled heavy cream to soft peaks and gently fold it into the chocolate mixture until the mousse becomes airy and light. Cover, pop in the fridge, and set aside.
Moribyan Tip: Fold gently and slowly — this keeps all that beautiful fluffy volume in the mousse.
Make the Chantilly Cream
Whip heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft, pillowy peaks form. Cover and set aside. You can spoon it on or pipe it for a bakery-style finish.
Serving Tip: A star piping tip makes the cups look extra fancy with almost no effort.
Assemble the Mousse Cups
Add a few spoonfuls of the crust mixture to the bottom of each cup and press lightly. Add the chocolate mousse until each cup is about two-thirds to three-quarters full. Top with a generous swirl of Chantilly cream.
You can serve them right away or chill them to set even more. They hold their shape beautifully and feel even silkier once chilled.
Storing
Cover each cup or jar with a lid or plastic wrap and keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. Perfect for making ahead for a party or having a dessert ready-to-go whenever cravings strike.

- Enjoy right away, or cover each jar and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
Tips & Notes
Q: Can I make this in one big dish instead of individual cups?
A: Yes! You can layer everything in a small tray, trifle bowl, or parfait bowl. Add the crust to the bottom, spread the mousse on top, and finish with Chantilly.
Q: Where can I buy the cups you used in the recipe?
A: I’ll link the exact ones I used here: 7 ounce jars.
Any 6–8 ounce glass jars, dessert cups, or small ramekins will work too.
Q: Can I skip the espresso powder?
A: Yes! It doesn’t make it taste like coffee — it just enhances the chocolate — so you can leave it out.
Q: Can I use store-bought whipped cream instead of Chantilly?
A: Yes, if you’re in a rush, but fresh Chantilly always gives the best texture and flavor.
