Tiramisu Latte

If you’ve ever had tiramisu, you know how indulgent and rich it is—the perfect balance of creamy mascarpone, coffee, and a little sweetness. Now, imagine turning that classic dessert into a latte! This Tiramisu Latte brings all those comforting flavors into a drinkable dessert, and it’s super easy to make. Whether you’re in the mood for a hot, cozy version or a refreshing iced treat, this latte is like dessert that you can sip and I can’t wait for you to try it.

Ingredients

To get that perfect Tiramisu Latte, we need a few key ingredients. Start with some freshly brewed espresso—strong, bold, and smooth. Sweeten it with brown sugar or mocha sauce for that extra depth of flavor that makes the drink feel indulgent. For the foam, mascarpone cheese is the key to bringing that tiramisu flavor, and when combined with heavy cream, simple syrup, and vanilla extract, you’ll have a luscious, sweet foam that sits perfectly on top of your latte. Choose your milk based on preference—whole milk will make it extra creamy, but oat or almond milk works well if you prefer a dairy-free version.

Preparing the Espresso

Start by brewing two shots of espresso. If you don’t have an espresso machine, no worries—just brew a strong cup of coffee, as long as it’s bold enough to stand up to the sweet foam and milk. While your espresso is hot, add brown sugar or mocha sauce to it, stirring until it’s completely dissolved. This step is important because the heat will help the sugar melt and blend seamlessly into the coffee, creating that smooth sweetness we love in tiramisu. Set your espresso aside once it’s ready; now it’s time to focus on the foam.

Feel free to sweeten the espresso however you like with any syrups or sugars. If you prefer a stronger latte, opt for three shots instead of a double shot!

Making the Mascarpone Foam

In a bowl, combine heavy cream, mascarpone cheese, simple syrup, and vanilla extract. Whisk everything together until it’s smooth and thick, but still soft enough to pour or spoon onto your drink. You want the foam to have a nice, velvety texture that will float on top of your latte, just like the creamy mascarpone layer in tiramisu. If you prefer a thicker foam, you can whisk it a little longer, but be careful not to overdo it—too stiff and it won’t be as smooth. Once it’s ready, set it aside and get ready to assemble your latte.

If you end up accidentally over-whipping it and it’s too thick, add a splash of milk to thin it out until you have the desired consistency.

Assembling the Hot Tiramisu Latte

For the hot version, start by steaming your milk until it’s hot, but not boiling. If you have a milk frother, now is the perfect time to use it to get that rich, velvety texture. Once your milk is ready, pour the sweetened espresso into a mug. Then, slowly pour the steamed milk into the mug, filling it almost to the top. Finish it off by spooning a generous layer of the mascarpone foam on top. You can dust the top with a little cocoa powder or sprinkle on chocolate shavings for that authentic tiramisu touch. The foam will float on top, creating that perfect balance of creamy and coffee—just like a drinkable dessert! Finish it off with a lady finger for dipping in the foam and coffee to complete the tiramisu latte.

Assembling the Iced Tiramisu Latte

For the iced version, the process is similar, but you’ll want to adjust a couple of steps. Start by filling a tall glass with ice, then pour your cold milk over it. This helps the milk stay cold and the ice doesn’t melt as quickly when you add the hot espresso. Slowly pour the sweetened espresso over the milk, and you’ll get that beautiful layered effect with the dark espresso floating above the milk. Top it off with the mascarpone foam, letting it cascade over the ice and mix in slightly. If you want to get extra fancy, you can dust the top with cocoa powder or even add chocolate shavings for a little added sweetness. And finally, serve it with a lady finger to dip into the foam and coffee!

Tips and Variations

This latte is super customizable, so feel free to adjust it to suit your preferences. If you like your lattes a bit sweeter, add extra brown sugar or mocha sauce to your espresso. You can also experiment with different types of milk—whole milk gives it a nice creamy richness, but oat and almond milk are great dairy-free options that still create a smooth texture.

If you’re in a rush or want to make things ahead of time, you can prepare the mascarpone foam in advance. Just store it in the fridge for up to a day, and give it a quick whisk before using.

To turn this into a tiramisu hot cocoa, skip the latte part and make this hot cocoa. Then top it off with the mascarpone foam which acts like the “whipped cream” in your hot cocoa. And of course, still, finish it off with a dusting of cocoa powder and a lady finger.
