4 Ingredient Donuts

Did you know you only need 4 ingredients to make donuts at home? This simple hack of using frozen dinner roll dough from the store makes for the softest and most fluffy yeast donuts. So next time skip the donut shop and try this trick out for the most delicous yeast donuts!

One of the best kitchen hacks is yeast dinner roll dough. You can buy it frozen from the freezer section of the supermarket and the best brand I love to use is Rhodes. You can make anything from sweet or savory using the dough as the base like pizza, donuts, monkey bread, or even cheesy bread. The possibilities are endless. Today we’ll be using the dough to make donuts!

How to Make the Donuts

Once. you have the frozen bag of yeast dinner rolls, take them out of the freezer and place them on a lined baking tray. Make sure they are spaced apart by an inch and then cover, place in a warm place, and allow to defrost to room temperature. There are directions on the back of the package for how to defrost them as well. Another option is to do this step the night before and keep the tray in the fridge overnight to thaw.

When the dough is at room temperature and a bit fluffy, it’s ready to go. Now you can go in any direction with these donuts after frying. You can glaze them, coat them in sugar, fill them with jam or custard, etc. Today we’ll be rolling them in cinnamon sugar. To make the cinnamon sugar, just combine white sugar and cinnamon and that’s it.

Now it’s time to fry the donuts. Add oil to a pot that’s enough to deep-fry. Heat over medium heat. You don’t want the oil to be too hot or else the donuts will be raw in the center by the time the outside is golden. You want to cook them low and slow. The oil should just be bubbling slightly not popping everywhere.

Drop the dough in but just a few at a time so they’re not overcrowded. Allow it to cook on one side until golden and then flip it over and repeat.

Once it’s out of the fryer, coat it in the cinnamon sugar and that’s basically it! If you wanted to add a filling, you can do that now too.

I loved this recipe. It was easy and simple and a great start for me as a 18 year old who’s getting into baking. I made mine knot circular donuts with a hole in the middle and they tasted amazing!
