Pigs in a Blanket
Pigs in a blanket – the easiest snack that only requires 3 ingredients and everyone will love! They’re the perfect party food or a side dish on the dinner table that will be gone in seconds. Picture savory beef hot dogs wrapped in a blanket of fluffy buttery dough!

Now if you’re wondering where this very popular recipe got its name from since there is actually no pig/pork in it, here’s the story. As I read online, these originated in the UK where small sausages are wrapped in bacon and then called pigs in a blanket. In the US, it’s more common for it to be wrapped in a blanket of dough and usually, beef hot dogs are used instead of sausage. There are tons of other variations all around the world in different cuisines that consist of a sausage like meat wrapped in dough and they’re all equally as good.
The Ingredients
The best part about this recipe is you only need 3 ingredients!
- mini hot dogs
- crescent roll dough
- Challenge Everything Snack Spread
The mini hot dogs are typically called cocktail dogs or little smokies and they’re made of beef. They have them at most large supermarkets but if for some reason you can’t find them, you can cut hot dogs into small pieces.
I also love to use crescent roll dough to make pigs in a blanket because they taste super buttery and also just a little bit sweet. They complement the salty savory hot dogs so well. You can also use pizza dough or puff pastry if you can’t get crescent roll dough.

Then for my favorite part, we’re going to use our secret ingredient that is Challenge Everything Snack Spread. It’s the ultimate hack to save time but still add so much flavor to this recipe. If you’re obsessed with everything bagels like I am, you’re in for a treat. It’s made with real butter and can be used as a spread, dip, or melted like in this recipe to brush on the dough before baking! They have a bunch of other sweet and savory flavors that are all to die for.
How to Make Them
Start out with unrolling the crescent roll dough into 1 large sheet. Cut the dough into very small triangles using a pizza cutter or knife. You want the longest part of the triangle to be a bit shorter than the hot dog so it peaks out from either side.
Place a mini hot dog along the longer side of the triangle and start rolling towards the thinner side. Press the end down to seal and set it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the hot dogs and dough until there is none left.

Melt a bit of the butter in a small in the microwave and then brush on top of the pigs in a blanket. Optional, add more everything bagel seasoning on top. Then pop in the oven to bake until beautifully golden on top. My favorite way to enjoy them is with a jalapeño cheese dip just like the pretzel shops in the mall have!
If you want even more buttery flavor, brush them with the everything spread right when they come out of the oven again.
