Halloumi Fries

Halloumi meets French Fries in this crispy, cheesy snack that is just irresistibly good! This was inspired by a menu item at McDonald’s in the UK but since we’re not that special enough in the states to get it too, we’re going to make it at home and even better!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces halloumi cheese, 1 package
  • vegetable oil for frying

FLOUR COATING

  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of black pepper

EGG COATING

  • 2 large eggs
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of black pepper

PANKO COATING

  • 1 1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, paprika, dried parsley, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. In a second small bowl, whisk together eggs with a tiny pinch of salt and black pepper.
  3. In a third small bowl, whisk together panko breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Place the block of halloumi cheese on a cutting board. Slice into long thin strips to resemble the shape of a French fry.
  5. Dip each piece first into the flour mixture and shake off any excess. Then dip into the egg mixture and let any excess drip off. Last, dip into the panko breadcrumb mixture. Repeat until all are breaded.
  6. Add some vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat to 350°F.
  7. Drop the nuggets in and fry until they are golden brown all around. It only takes 2 to 3 minutes if the oil is hot enough.
  8. Take out of the oil and transfer to a wire rack to drain any excess oil.
  9. Serve with some ketchup, marinara, or your favorite dipping sauce to enjoy!
