Copycat Cava Pita Chips

My favorite thing to get at Cava is their crispy pita chips! They are truly unlike any other pita chip you buy at the store in a bag. They are super crispy on the outside but thick and fluffy on the inside and I think this recipe turns out exactly like Cava's, if not better!

Ingredients

  • 4 pitas, cut into triangles
  • vegetable oil, for frying

SPICE MIX

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the Italian seasoning, salt, lemon pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to make the spice mix. Set aside.
  2. Cut each pita into 8 triangles or pieces.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan so it's hot, around 325 to 350°F.
  4. Fry the pita in batches so they're not overcrowded.
  5. Once golden and crispy, remove the chips from the oil and transfer them to a wire rack to drain excess oil. Do not fry too much because you want it to be soft in the center but crispy on the edges just like Cava.
  6. Once all the bread is fried, transfer the pita chips to a bowl and add as much seasoning as you like.
  7. Shake around to toss it so all the chips are evenly seasoned.
  8. Serve with hummus or your favorite dip to enjoy!

Notes

Make sure to purchase the thickest pita you can find in the store so the texture is just like Cava.
This is the brand that Cava uses. It is a Brooklyn based business called Damascus Bakeries. They have a store locator to find where to buy it.
The brand I used is Papa Pita and I find it at most major supermarkets.
